does anyone have any opinions about lapband surgery for weight loss?
I’m very overweight and considering the lap band surgery. I have tried just about every diet pill out there. I’ve tried eating alot, eating nothing.. liquid diets, weight watchers, atkins, l.a. weight loss, and sooooooo many others. My thyroid has been tested, and has nothing wrong with it. SO i’m thinking this MAY be MY solution? Has anyone had it? Or know anyone that’s had it? What are your opinions? Thanks!!
I had the gastric by pass, DONT DO THAT. Go for the lap band . Less recovery, band can be adjusted, cost is much less. Not as hard on the body. Less scarring. I wish I could go back in time and have the lap band.
Good Luck. No matter your weight, You are still a beautiful human being!
Yes, it is a drastic measure…and is sometimes the only way. I have known several people to have this surgery. They did loose a lot of weight. One did not keep it off. I wish dieting was easier. It is very difficult. I think the typical American diet makes it almost impossible. If you need food on the run, its all high fat, high cholesterol, zero nutrition.
On the other hand….not that you want to hear another weight loss program…but I lost 50 lbs on McDougalls. http://www.drmcdougall.com
I was able to e-mail him direct and he actually responds same day. I like the free support because I don’t have the $$$ for some of these diets. I did not do McDougalls to the tee, but it helped reduce my appetite and help me eat better foods for health. I was still able to eat anytime I was hungry…the key was to eat the things I liked that were high in fiber…and drink lots of water. I also quit Coca-Cola. That was the tough thing. If you need support, surgery or not, feel free to e-mail me at greenfieldacademy@yahoo.com. I will be glad to tell you about the diet I am on …who knows, we might be the encouragement we both need to complete our weight loss goals.
Stop looking for the quick answer. You should watch calories, eat healthy, and exercise. It’s simple math. If you do not have a thyroid problem then my guess is you never stuck to any of your diets long enough and you were cheating.
Have more will power. How do you get more will power? You have to want to lose weight more – and I mean REALLY want it.
Go to this site and figure out what your calorie intake should be to lose weight.

Then stick to it until you lose the amount of weight you want – DO NOT STOP UNTIL THAT POINT – then move to the calories you’d need to maintain your weight.
The trick is to eat healthier foods that have lots of vitamins and protein. These foods will satisfy you longer and help to keep you from eating too much. Junk foods cause you to be hungry again in a short amount of time because your body is not nourished by them – you simply filled your stomach to get rid of the desire to eat.
Also, you should exercise. The more you exercise the more you will be allowed to eat. Make sure to weight train for muscle growth. Muscle growth is proven to eat away calories. Personally I find it to work better than cardio – although do cardio also for the health benefits.
Good luck.
I personally understand this question and the concerns, and nothing bothers me more than when people tell me i just haven’t tried hard enough.
My opinions on the lap-band are this:
You have to be able to continue the diet they give you. It’s very easy to eat junk with the lap-band, so people do tend to gain weight again after some years. And I get upset when I hear someone say the lap-band failed the patient. I always think of it more like the patient failed the lap-band.
I personally will have this surgery in the next few months.
There is A LOT of paper work and Dr. appointments and you have to see a nutritionist and a therapist and they will determine if you are right for the lap-band.
GOOD LUCK!
